Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) is expanding its operations at the Struandale Engine Plant in Port Elizabeth as part of a wide-ranging investment in its two South African plants, announced late last year.

“We are delighted to confirm that, as part of the R3-billion investment announced in November 2017, we are expanding both the capability and capacity of the Struandale Engine Plant for our current and future engine programmes,” says Jacques Brent, President of Ford Middle East and Africa.

“The investment includes the installation of a sophisticated new assembly line for an all-new diesel engine program that will, most notably, power the exciting new Ford Ranger Raptor when it is launched in 2019,” Brent adds.

PRETORIA, South Africa, 17 November 2016 – The initial batch of South African-built Ford Everest vehicles have been produced for export markets in Sub-Saharan Africa, and the very first vehicle is currently on its way to its new owner in Kenya.

The Moondust Silver Everest 2.2 XLT 4×4 departed the Port of Durban on 12 November, and is destined for Mombasa where it is scheduled to dock before making its way to local Ford dealer,CMC.

The Ford Struandale Engine Plant in Port Elizabeth has reaffirmed its status as one of the Eastern Cape’s top exporters by winning three merit awards at the 2016 Exporter of the Year awards.

The glittering banquet, hosted by the Exporters Club of South Africa – Eastern Cape, was held at the Boardwalk Convention Centre on Friday 12 August. It was attended by around 580 industry and local government leaders, and recognised the contribution that manufacturing and export businesses made to the domestic economy.

Once again, Ford was acknowledged as one of the top original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the automotive sector, picking up a Best Exporter OEM Merit Award to go with the overall category titles won in 2013 and 2015.

Thousands of people across South Africa will benefit from a diverse range of community empowerment projects selected to receive grants from the Ford Motor Company Fund, as part of the Ford College Community Challenge (C3).

The C3 program runs in collaboration with Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company, and non-profit organization Enactus to empower communities to become more sustainable, and improve working and living conditions.

The winning proposals came from five different South African universities, and they will receive approximately R70 000 (5 000 USD) per project as they which set out to empower disabled and elderly people, assist with food security, job creation and economic development of impoverished communities.

University students take the leadership role in these Enactus projects, from design to implementation, and the teams are encouraged to think innovatively and creatively about what it means to build a sustainable community.

Ford Motor Company today is announcing leadership changes in the Middle East and Africa as it continues to deliver the company’s One Ford plan for profitable growth.

Jacques Brent, 46, currently vice president Marketing, Asia Pacific, is appointed president, Middle East and Africa, effective July 1, 2016. He will be based in Dubai. He replaces Jim Benintende, who will be taking over the role of director, US Sales Support reporting to Mark LaNeve, vice president U.S. Marketing Sales and Service at Ford’s World Headquarters in Dearborn, effective Aug. 1, 2016.
